  4. Communication • Student Planners • Weekly emails (typically on Monday) • Personal websites on Lakeshore’s website • Purple Friday Folders – contains graded assignments and progress reports/report cards • Parent/Teacher Conferences – in October and as needed • Important Back to School Information found on Lakeshore’s homepage

  5. Student Planners • Students are responsible to write down: • Homework assignments • School calendar events • 4th grade class events • Reminders

  6. Communication • If your child is absent, please send a written note or email to homeroom teacher. • If we do not receive a written note within 48-hours, the absence is considered unexcused. • If your child has a change in transportation, a written note must be given to homeroom teacher prior to 2:30 p.m.

  7. Dress Code* • Shorts and skirts must be between the knee and mid-thigh or longer • No spaghetti straps, halter tops, or tank tops (use the 3 finger rule) • No excessively loose or tight garments • No sleeveless shirts for boys • No wheeled shoes or flip flops * Check the HISD Handbook for a complete list located on HISD’s website!

  8. Healthy Snack at 10:30 each day • Fruit • Veggies • Granola/Cereal Bars • Pretzels • Crackers

  9. Recess • Because our school has grown so big, we are sharing the playground with 3rd Grade • Monday/Wednesday/Friday – Field and new Track • Tuesday/Thursday – Big Playground

  10. Rewards (ADD for your Class) • Leopard Spots • Grade Level Reward each 9-weeks (voted) • Classroom Reward each Friday (drawing) • Curtis/Birk Tickets • Purchase “Paws”itive Passes

  12. Consequences (ADD for your Class) • Each homeroom travels with a clipboard that notes conduct and missing homework assignments • 9-week conduct grade is based on the number of times your student is marked on the clipboard (not including homework)

  16. Austin Field Trip • Our tentative date is February 27 • One-day field trip on Greyhound Buses • Will travel to Capitol and other locations in Austin • Lunch and Dinner are provided • More details to come as the date is confirmed…

  18. Homework Green Folder (ADD) • Must have Homework Folder with homework in class daily – even if it’s not due • Important documents that require parent signature may be placed in the Homework Folder

Math Information (ADD) • Check website weekly for announcements, homework assignments, Math Journal notes, tutorials, important dates, etc. • Green Math Journal will travel between home and school daily, but it must be in class daily • Homework is assigned on Mondays and DUE on Thursdays • If a student does not have their homework or it is not fully complete with showing their work, they will complete a Missing Assignment Report explaining why their home is not complete • No homework = No Recess • Math Assessments include class participation, daily assignments, quizzes, and tests

Science/Social Studies Information (ADD) • Science/Social Studies Journals will remain at school unless they are needed to study for test (parents will be notified via email) • Most work is done in class – no homework except to study for tests • Science/Social Studies Assessments include class participation, daily assignments, quizzes, and tests

Reading Information (ADD) • Check website weekly for announcements, homework assignments, tutorials, important dates, etc. • Reading Journal stays at school, but books travel from home and school. Please make sure your child has a book at school daily. • Students must read 80 minutes weekly (20 minutes a night Monday-Thursday) and log their reading on Whooo’s Reading. Weekly reading is checked on Fridays. • If a student has an activity during the week, they are more than welcome to double their reading on their off night. • No homework = No Recess • Reading Assessments include class participation, daily assignments, quizzes, and tests

Writing Information (ADD) • Check website weekly for announcements, homework assignments, tutorials, important dates, etc. • Writing Journal stays at school • Any Writing Homework will be posted on website. Will be sent home on different days, depending on what is being covered. Other than studying, most writing will be done at school. • No homework = No Recess • Encourage your child to write at home! It doesn’t have to be perfect, but the more they write, the better they will get.

  23. Spelling Information (ADD) • Check website weekly for weekly list. • Spelling Menu posted on website will not change. Must complete three activities, in a row, weekly. • Assignments in journal will be checked on Friday. • If student does an assignment on computer, it must be printed out and glued into journal. • Student’s word study journals will travel between home and school daily. • No homework = No Recess • Spelling Tests will always be on Fridays, unless otherwise noted.

Tutorials • Tutorials will begin the week of 9/15 • Students will be invited into tutorials based on various criteria • Parents will sign a permission slip form • Reading • Mondays and Wednesdays • 7:30 a.m. to 8:00 a.m. • 3:30 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. (pick up must be prompt) • Math will be on Tuesdays and Thursdays • Tuesdays and Thursdays • 7:30 a.m. to 8:00 a.m. • 3:30 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. (pick up must be prompt)

  25. Parent Volunteers • If you would like to be a classroom helper, copy room helper, Junior Achievement helper, and/or room parent, please let us know tonight and we will forward your information to PTO.
