  2. Early Years James Madison was born on March 16, 1751. He was the eldest of the 12 children in his family. As a child he was frail and sickly.

  3. Education James Madison studied with private tutors. Then the attended the Donald Robertson School. Then he entered the College of New Jersey at the age of 18. He graduated in 1771.

  4. Religious Studies/Interests After James Madison graduated he studied Hebrew, philosophy, and other subjects. He showed his deep interest in religious questions.

  5. James Madison served in the Continental Congress. He was in the Virginia legislature He helped revise the Articles of Confederation.

  6. Good friend with Thomas Jefferson. Our fourth president.
