  1. Dreaming Up Your Dream Vacation STUDENTS, you will not believe the unbelievable news. Because of all your hard work at school, your name was entered into the Dream Vacation Drawing Jar. Winner, Winner Chicken Dinner!! That’s right , your name was picked. You have a very important task at hand. You are able to plan a dream vacation of your choice. The prize was $20,000. As part of your plan, you will need to plan for the costs of transportation, hotels, and entertainment. Dream big because you will take this vacation soon.

  2. Introduction • You are about to embark on a vacation of your choice.  You need to research a place that you would like to visit.  You will have to figure out the transportation, rental car, lodging, and entertainment activities.  Start brainstorming on a dream vacation spot and some favorite activities you would like to do while you are there. You may spend as much of the $20,000 you want. The remainder of the money can be used on this vacation or for a vacation of the future.

  3. TASK • You will be creating a presentation explaining their dream vacation getaway.  You will need to include photos representing their destination, hotels, transportation, and the entertainment activities on your trip.  The presentation may be done as a poster board or multimedia project on the computer.  You are in charge of this trip, so make sure to be creative and use your imagination to make this trip meaningful to you.  The only rule to follow while planning this vacation is making sure that all of your expenses are within the budget of $20,000.00.

The Process • The following is a set of questions to help guide you through planning your dream vacation.  It is not required to answer every question, but they should be considered while creating your project. • Where is your dream vacation located? • What time of year do you plan to go? • How do you plan to get to your vacation spot?(Plane, train, or automobile, etc.) • Will you need a rental car or take a shuttle for transportation? • What is the weather at this vacation spot at the time of year you plan to go? • If driving, how much will the gas cost? • If flying, how much will the plane ticket cost? • Where do you plan to stay? (hotel, family, camping, etc.) • What are some activities you would like to do while on vacation? • How much does each activity cost?

Resources Here are some informational websites that will help you in your research.  Provided are sites to help you with choosing how you will travel, some activities that you can do while at your vacation spot and how to get to your vacation destination. • www.expedia.comThis is a website that contains information regarding flights to any destination.  It can give you ideas of where you might want to travel. • www.travelocity.com This is a great site to find cheap tickets for traveling to a specific destination.  It also gives you ideas about where you can stay during your vacation.  • www.vacationidea.comHere is a beneficial website that offers many activities including historical sites, national parks, kid friendly interests, amusement parks, and much more.   • www.mapquest.com This website will help you determine the time and distance it will take from your home to your vacation dream spot.  This will allow you to figure out how much money you will have to spend on gas.

You just planned a realistic dream vacation that you will embark on when you become an adult.  You came up with wonderful vacation spots and fun activities to do while there.  Now focus on your schoolwork, so that this vacation will become a reality.
