  2. Information about the Azay • The chateau was built from 1515-1527 • The chateau was built for Gilles Berthelot’s wife Phillipa Lesbahy. • It was built for his wife’s inheritance; the property was already there.

  3. Three Unique features of the chateau • It’s built on an island, the foundations rise out of the water. • The first to have a central staircase. • The center for wine

  4. Two important events: • Berthelot was suspected of embezzlement and was forced to leave the chateau. • In the early 20th century, the French government claims the chateau.

  5. My opinion of the chateau • I love the fact that the chateau is on an island. It amazes me as to how the construction was done in order for it to be built on the water back then. It is also very beautiful on the outside and the inside.
