  3. Benefit of citizen’s academies • Citizens are more engaged • Citizens have a better understanding of issues • Improves the diversity of citizens who participate • Improves transparency and builds trust between the community and the City

  4. WHY Citizens participate….. • Positive change in the community • Better understand how the City operates • Expand leadership skills • Meet new people and find ways to volunteer

  5. ANNOUNCING…..Salisbury Citizen’s academy • Each Thursday beginning September 11 - November 6 • 5:30 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. at various City facilities • Free to the public • Class size of 20 • Age 16 and up

  6. Salisbury Citizen’s Academy will offer • An opportunity to meet with staff and elected officials • Hands-on learning and field trips to various facilities • Behind the scenes look at local government • Preparation for service on a City board or commission

  7. What topics are covered? Sessions include: • Introduction to Local Government • Community Planning/Engineering • Public Services • Salisbury-Rowan Utilities • Infrastructure Services/Fibrant • Parks & Recreation • Police Department • Fire Department • Human Resources/Budget/Boards & Commissions
