Šiauliai City • Šiauliai city is the forth largest city of Lithuania, and has a huge impact on the development of Northern Lithuania • Šiauliai was founded in 1236, after theBattle of the Sun, 775 years old • It is the centre of Northern Lithuania with 129 037 inhabitants • Šiauliai City – the centre of culture and science: 1 University, 3 Colleges, Šiauliai Vocational Education and Training Centre, Over 70 institutions of education (schools, kindergartens), Music Conservatoire, 2 Theatres, Museums, Art Galleries

Šiauliai University • Founded in 1997 • Type: Classical type University • The Aim – to become a modern, society-open university, capable to compete in local and international markets of the XXI century. • Governance:The Senate is the supreme decision making body and it is represented by 32 researchers and 4 students • Students:7398 • Staff:about 500: Professors – 10 %, Assoc. professors – 35 %, Doctors, habil. doctors – 39 %, Others – 16 %

Research • The university operates the following research centres: Biomedical Engineering, Biological Research, Educational Research, Energy and Environmentally Clean Technologies, Technological Experiments, Social Research, Special Education, Modelling of Physical Processes, Natural Science Education, Art, Public Health, and Gender Studies. There is European Studies Institute at the University as well.

  28. Academic Calendar • Duration of Semesters: Autumn: 1September -31January Spring: 1February - 30 June • To start studies in September the noneuropean applicants must submit all documents until April 1.

  29. Legalisation of Educational Documents Educational documents should be legalised by: • The Ministry of the Foreign Affairs or the diplomatic mission or consular post of the country where education was received • The Lithuanian diplomatic mission or consular post in the country where education was received or in the Consular Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Lithuania.   30. Other Fees • Application fee:EUR 95 non-refundable application fee. The fee must accompany the application. The fee can be paid with a Bank draft (international cheque) to Siauliai University. • Refund policy for International Students Fees: If a student's visa application is refused, a full refund of fees will be made (except 95 EUR application fee). Evidence of refusal is required.

  31. Immigration Regulations • Temporary Residence Permit (TRP) of the Republic of Lithuania will be issued for one academic year. International Relations Office provides all necessary documents. • The student has to apply to the nearest Embassy/Consulate of the Republic of Lithuania for TRP. • The person is provided with a short-term visa by the above-mentioned institution as soon as the Migration Department in Lithuania confirms his/her application for TRP (the revision of the documents may take more than 2 months). • The TRP card can be obtained only upon arrival in the host country within 7 days. • The TRP allows up to one-year stay in Lithuania, and have to be renewed before 2 months student's visa expires. Living and Studying • Accommodation: - Šiauliai University has students dormitory - Rooms: single and double - The price for 1 person per 1 month: 70 EUR - Internet access in the room: 30 EURper semester • Medical service: Šiauliai University students can use medical service, offered by the University Medical Center as well as private providers. !The fees may change.

  33. Living and Studying • Šiauliai University students have many sources of learning, entertainment, cultural and leisure activities. Moreover, they successfully compete in basketball, handball, soccer, rugby and other competitions. The University has its own Gallery, Botanical Garden, Educational Theatre, TV and Radio.

Students Organisations: • Erasmus Student Network (ESN) is one of the biggest interdisciplinary student associations in Europe, founded in 1990 for supporting and developing student exchange. • The Aim of ESN: 1. more mobile and flexible education environment 2. supporting and developing the student exchange 3.
