  1. Scope and Goals of the Review of the Muon Chamber and Electronics Support Structures: A basic concept has been developed in the past months, taking into account the requirements and the existing constraints -> Agreement on a baseline design is needed for further progress -> An action list towards the EDR/PRR of the support structures should be established, including suggestions on improvements of the present design General Muon System Support Structures Integration Meeting LNF

  2. M2-M5 Support structures Integration Meeting LNF

  3. Reviewers Recommendations Technical Issues – Muon Chamber and Electronics Support: • Only conceptual design has been presented and thorough engineering check is needed: “Structures are strongly hyper-static. Therefore an extensive engineering analysis is necessary, checking that under most severe combinations of positioning tolerances the structures have sufficient strength in terms of the expected stress- and deformation level, but also in terms of safety against buckling.” • Pivoting connections should be considered -> Much engineering and design work remains to be done! • EDR for Support structures should take place in Spring 2004 in order to have the structures ready for installation in 02/2005 Integration Meeting LNF

  4. Support Structures Progress since the review: Integration Meeting LNF

  5. Progress since the review Introduction of pivoting connections: vertical horizontal Integration Meeting LNF

  6. Progress since the review Modification of ground support: (using rails and rollers similar to filter chariots) Integration Meeting LNF

  7. Reviewers Comments General Comments: • Overall impression of the material presented at the review is very positive. Recommendations: • Define schedule in more detail • Strengthening of manpower resources • Options: • Add 6 months of a qualified designer • Base call for tenders on semi-functional technical specifications, leaving details of the design work to the suppliers -> Ferrara designers interested to join the project Integration Meeting LNF

  8. Schedule LHCC milestones: • Muon filter ready: 12/2004 • Support structures ready: 6/2005 Internal milestones: • PRR for chariots and their production drawings ready 6/2003 • PRR for filters and production drawings for tooling ready 11/2003 • EDR for chamber support structures 3/2004 • Production drawings for structures and tooling ready 6/2004 • Start of support structure construction 9/2004 Integration Meeting LNF

  9. Chamber Support Structure Dimensions • M1: Horizontal: +/-4000mm Vertical: +3350mm and -3400mm • M2: Horizontal: +/-5030mm Vertical: +4190mm and -4240mm • M3: Horizontal: +/-5410mm Vertical: +4500mm and -4550mm • M4: Horizontal: +/-5800mm Vertical: +4830mm and -4880mm • M5: Horizontal: +/-6180mm Vertical: +5140mm and -5190mm Integration Meeting LNF
