What is an ORG? • An ORGanization code is the FOAPAL element that defines a distinct budgetary unit or authority. • OSU restricts ORG codes to all numeric characters. • The 6 digit ORG codes are hierarchical, and sub-units are reported as part of a larger entity: • 23xxxx College of Forestry • 231100 Forest Resources • 231110 Forest Resources Dept Head (administration) • 231120 Forest Resources Operations (Instruction, Research)

  3. ORG Validation Table - FTVORGN • The form that lists of all Organizations in the OSU Chart, referred to as ORG codes. • Information provided: • Organization code • Organization Title • Data Entry code (Y = can post using code) • Status (A = active) • Dates of activation and termination

Organization Code • Organization codes follow a numbering convention: • The first digit of the ORG code indicates the budget authority rollup. • The second digit further defines the budget authority at a college or VP level. • The remaining four digits specifically identify the department and functions of the unit, such as administrative or operations.

  9. Organization Title • Each ORG code has a title which starts with a three digit acronym indicating the budget authority. • Example: MHD = University housing/dining SCH = Chemistry in College of Science • The remaining characters indicate the department and any sub-units in the department.
