Cost • SAT: $52.50 • ACT: $54.50(writing) • Fee waivers (for students who receive free or reduced lunch or have special circumstances) • The student can take the SAT or ACT twice for FREE • The fee waiver also covers the cost of four college application fees *DON’T miss the deadline! Public and Private Four and Two Year Colleges Four-year colleges Students obtain a bachelor’s degree Universities and liberal arts colleges Two-year colleges certificate or associate degree programs community colleges, vocational /technical colleges and career colleges. • Public colleges • Funded by local and state governments • Usually offer lower tuition rates than private colleges • Offers in state tuition at a lower cost • PiPrivate colleges • Funded by tuition, fees and private sources • Private donations can provide generous financial aid packages

  8. For Profit Colleges Vocational-technical and career colleges Specialized training in a particular industry or career. Programs of study include: The Culinary Arts, Firefighting, Dental Hygiene and Medical-Records Technology. Certificates or associate degrees. (ex: Miller Motte Tech) • Businesses that offer a degree programs for a specific career. • Higher cost • Credits earned may not transfer • (Ex: The Art Institutes, ECPI )

Paper applications or online • Requires transcript and letters of recommendation • Request transcripts in the black binder in guidance • Let your counselor know when to complete secondary reports • Remind teachers, coaches, pastors, etc. about letters of recommendation • When? Watch for deadlines • Early action = non-binding • Early decision = binding • Regular • Rolling = until class is full Applying to College
