About Us… • Both recent CLU graduates and current students • Both work in the CLU Registrar’s Office as Student Records Evaluators
Food for Thought • Do you have unlimited resources? • No Budget Restrictions • No Time Constraints • Unlimited pool of employees • If you answered yes to any of these questions, this session may not be right for you.
Comfortable Routines • “That’s how we’ve always done it!” • Sometimes change can be a good thing • Play the devil’s advocate and question the way things are done • Take a different view
Communication Upward Downward Lateral • Downward: (historically most emphasized) Decision made at the top, relayed through the descending channels • Upward: Can be beneficial in offering feedback, warnings, opinions • Lateral: Key functions among peers or different departments include task coordination, information sharing, problem solving, emotional support
Customer Service • Internal • Within Your Department • With Other Departments • External • Students • Parents • Applicants • Alumni
Utilize Students & Student Employees • Test out forms and new procedures on students • Look for issues and ask students for feedback • Keep an eye out for changes in campus culture
Before After
Be Open Minded When Hiring • From different school (geographic location) • From different type of school (public, private, size) • From different industry (business, government)
Go Green! • Put forms & information online • Email information to students • Allow phone and/or email appointment • Keep in mind that different Populations require different methods of communication
Breakout Session Questions to discuss: • Where are areas of possible improvement in my department? • How can we open doors of communication? • How can we simplify our workload?
What did we discover? • I learned something that I can take back with me. • I can make a difference. • I can streamline, simplify, and save!
