  1. Group 3 presentation Kathrine Juuso Christin Anja Dovile

  2. Mind map

  3. The start of the group work • Age groups (which age group or none) • Multicultural or not • Different view points (using the multicultural group to give different opinions about the same fact) • Do we want them to learn the languages

  4. Situation (background) • A group of people who do not understand each other • Can’t speak English, just there mother tongue

  5. Silly Rules • Everyone does not understand English • Can only use the pyramid (symbolic, iconic and inactive ways of communicating)

  6. The goal of the lecture (vision) • The groups should learn how to cooperate with each other without knowing the languages • Be initiative, not afraid to communicate using any methods that would help them to achieve the set goals • Have better group skills • The individual and overall goals (achievement) • Gain the understanding and importance of cooperation between cultures • Cultural and home values

  7. The methods • Theme week (or 15 min) • (Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Finland, Lithuania) • Outside the classroom • Different than the “normal” teaching

  8. The methods • Tactical & Kinesthetic way • LTTA – learning through the arts • Build letters of natural materials • CL – Cooperative learning • Special class (Oslo) – extreme language schooling

  9. The methods • Quiet role plays • Small games • Drama method

  10. How do we do that? • Every lecturer speaks in his/her own language • Has to be really clear to instruct others • Has to manage the multicultural group to cooperate with each other • 5 tasks in 5 different languages for 4 groups • Using 4 or 5 different learning styles • Having in mind the individual and overall goals • Group skills and multicultural groups

  11. Dovile suggestion • Going outside • Some exercise (just don’t know yet what kind of :D • I think it should be about 15 to 20 min for each of us that we would have some time to reflect on what was good/easy or difficult/bad • Maybe have some cooperative tasks (that everyone would have to do in the non multi cultural groups like a presentation to others about something, using the students that they could try to explain the facts (tasks) to the other groups without the English language

  12. Tasks • Linguistic-audio (Katharine - melody) • Kinesthetic • Tactical (Juuso) • Visual (Dovile)

  13. Linguistic-audio • Create a song in different languages • Every Country makes one verse • Theme words (home country) • Power point could be used • To explain the verse groups could as well cooperative choreography

  14. Tactile • Juuso paints with multicultural groups

  15. Visual • Building one thing (something) but only one has seen it • This one is the leader but can’t touch anything, just can give the instructions • Competition (fast and correct) • Gets a prize – medal chocolate
