Ellsworth Kelly American artist, “Twentieth-century painter and sculptor” In the 1950’s, “Kelly experimented with color-fielding painting…using a grid system with warm and cool colors to create optical effects on the canvas.” One example, is the 1951 painting Colors for a Large Wall, “combined 64 solid-colored painted squares into a grid.”
