  2. DHS: An IB World School We have received OFFICIAL authorization to offer the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme!

What is IB? • A non-profit educational foundation that: “aims to develop inquiring, knowledgeable and caring young people who help to create a better and more peaceful world through intercultural understanding and respect.”- the mission of IB • Internationally respected educational program • Authorized IB schools offer a rigorous 11th and 12th grade curriculum (the DP) • Three programs: Primary Years, Middle Years, Diploma Programmes • The goal is to educate the whole student and provide an education for life

  4. What is The Diploma Programme? The two‑year curriculum (for 11th and 12th graders) is rigorous and intellectually coherent, encouraging critical thinking through the study of a wide range of subjects in the traditional academic disciplines while encouraging an international perspective. Beyond completing courses and examinations in six subject areas in preparation for higher education and beyond, IB Diploma Programme students are also required to engage in creativity, action, service, individual research through the extended essay and an inquiry into the theory of knowledge.

The Specs: IB • 11th and 12th graders • All IB courses will be taught by IB trained teachers • All courses prepare for the IB Diploma assessments • Has 6 tested components: • Language (English) • Foreign Language (Spanish/French) • Social Studies (Hist. of Americas, 20th Century World Topics) • Science (Biology) • Math (Pre-Cal, Calculus, Statistics) • Elective (Music/Geography) • Has 3 core requirements: • Extended Essay • Theory of Knowledge • CAS – Creativity, Action, Service

  6. The Specs: Pre-IB 9th Grade Plan • Pre-IB Hrs. English 9 • Pre-IB AP European History • Pre-IB Hrs. Biology • Pre-IB (EPIC) Geometry • French/Spanish I or II • PE/Band/Athletics/Dance/ROTC • Fine Arts • Elective (Algebra I or ETF) 10th Grade Plan • Pre-IB Hrs. English 10 • Pre-IB AP American History • Pre-IB Hrs. Chemistry • Pre-IB (EPIC) Algebra II/Trigonometry • French/Spanish III • Health/Computer (online or summer school) • Elective (French/Spanish II if needed) • Elective • 9th and 10th graders • Many courses taught by IB trained teachers • Courses are designed to introduce an international learning environment, promote rigor, and develop a cohesive class of students

  7. Program Fees These fees cover the cost of the IB tests and registration, postage charges, and other fees that are not covered by the school. Payment Schedule 9th grade (upon acceptance) $110 10th grade (May 20 of 9th grade) $110 11th grade (May 20 of 10th grade) $215 12th grade (May 20 of 11th grade) $215 Total $650 We plan to offer scholarships to help with student costs for 11th and 12th grades.

Most of our students who are currently in the Pre-IB program are involved in some outside activity such as Band, NJROTC, Dance/Theater, Chorus, and Athletics.

Take the Application packet now or download from the school website: www.wpdavidson.org Application Deadline: Thursday, February 28, 2008, at 6:00 p.m. * Students will turn in completed application, application fee, and provide an onsite writing sample Students applying by the Final Application Deadline will be notified of admission status by March 14, 2008 Transfers and athletic eligibility are automatically granted to Pre-IB students
