Type of Government/Constitution Scotland The United States • Scotland’s leader is Alex Salmond. • He called Scotland's First Minister. • Alex was elected to office. • He has been Scotland’s First Minister for 26 years. • The United states leader is Barack Obama • His leadership is called the President of the United States. • Obama was elected into office. • This is his Second term.

  3. Lawmaking Body Scotland The United States • Scotland’s lawmaking body is called the Parliament. • Scotland is Bicameral • There are 129 people in the parliament and 56 additional members. • The United states Lawmaking body is called the Government.

Bill of Rights Scotland The United States • They have the freedom to express what they want, they just don’t have to listen to what others say. • Christianity is the most followed religion. • When prisoners are terminally ill they are released from prison, if they aren’t released it is considered cruel and unusual. • We have the Bill of Rights which is the first 10 Amendments. • 1. freedom of speech, press, and religion.

Political Parties Scotland The United States • Scotland is a multi-party system. • It is formally dependent on the legislature. • It is headed by a prime minister or premier who is considered the head of government. • In the United states its called a Government. • Our head leader is called a president.

Elections and Voting Scotland The United States • In Scotland you can vote at the age of 18. • Election for the Scottish Parliament are held every four years, on the first Thursday in May. • Voters are given two votes. • The Scottish Government and Ministers are responsible for setting the rules for the conduct of local government elections. • In the United States the voting age is 18. • The united states elections are held every four years.

Taxes Scotland The United States • The Scottish rate of income tax worth roughly £5.3bn after winning further concessions from the UK government. • Thing that are taxed, agriculture, fisheries and forestry; • economic development; education; the environment;• food standards; health; housing; local government and planning; social work; some transport policy, such as Scottish ports and roads; tourism. • We have income tax that we have to pay every year. • The tax rates are based on if you are married or if your single.

Government Finance Scotland The United States • Scotland get a lot of their money form there education, and selling there oil to other countries. • The devolved government for Scotland is responsible for most of the issues of day-to-day concern to the people of Scotland, including health, education, justice, rural affairs, and transport. • The United States makes its money from pretty much everything. • All things that are not a necessity in life has tax on it.

The Law Scotland The United States • Under the parliamentary system the roles of head of state and head of government are more or less separated. • Laws in the United States go through congress first as bills then is they are approved by majority vote then it goes to the president and he has the choice to sign it and make it a bill.

Current Relationship with the United States • Susman is preparing to visit Scotland, on his third trip north of the Border this year, it is clear that recent history has knocked a dent the relationship between the US and Scotland at least the decision didn’t help in maintaining good relations between the US and Scotland.
