Where can it be found? • The specie is found in the highlands on the plateau region where the grassland if thick and wet perfect for the plateau pika can survive. • This creature is found within China as well as Nepal, Tibet, Pakistan and India. • They prefer to live in elevations of 3,100 to 5,000 m • They can be also found in meadows, as well as tropical and subtropical montane forests.

  3. American Pika • The American pika is the brother specie that is found mainly in United states such as national parks as well as Europe in the colder conditions • This specie is actually protected very well and no real signs of possible danger or extinction • The specie is different color of fur and lives in more rocky, dryer conditions to the black lipped pika • Being the main specie within the area there 30 other species of the same family with it but not large enough to be recognized • It is also known as the "whistling hare" due to its high-pitched alarm call when diving into its burrow • They have very little predators in the areas that they lived in due to the poor conditions which would be hard for others

Some specific features • plateau pikas are the favorite food of the area's brown bears. • In addition to its role as a prey base, the plateau pika is important for soil health in meadow • The species is currently considered threatened, mostly due to aggressive poisoning campaigns by Chinese populations, predominantly to eliminate competition for food with livestock • They are reddish tan on the top-side with more of a whitish yellow on their under-belly.

  5. What makes it a key stone specie? • One of the reasons this is make a key stone specie is because it depends very much on there surroundings as they eat green products such as grass, leaves and other natural products from the environment. • However they are also hunted and are preferred by the Brown bear to be there favorite food. Due to the decline in the amount of the little Pika the need for food for the Brown Bear is getting harder causing the bear to slowly die having a knock on affect.
