  4. Lori Friedman– Outstanding Student Idaho State University – Didactic Program • The ISU Dietetic Faculty wish to nominate Lori Friedman for Outstanding Dietetic Student for 2016. The dietetic faculty consider the following criteria for nominating students for this award: consistent academic performance, leadership in dietetic student organizations, experience in the field, and collegiality with peers, faculty and preceptors. Lori has demonstrated excellence in all of these areas. • In her coursework, Lori’s performance is exceptional across all subjects. Her strong sense of inquiry and critical thinking skills allows her to “think outside the box” and be creative in her approaches to problems. • Lori has volunteered extensively in various areas of dietetics to gain additional experience for her dietetic internship. She has volunteered at the local WIC clinic for the past three semesters. She has also volunteered with local food pantries and soup kitchens. For the past seven summers, Lori has worked at the Boy Scouts of America summer camps in various administrative capacities. Lori has been a very active participant and leader in both the Student Dietetics Club and the Phi Upsilon Omicron Honor Society Beta Rho chapter last year serving as treasurer and this year as initiation chair. She has supported fund raising and service projects for both organizations. Lori commutes from Idaho Falls daily for her courses, volunteer and club activities. She aspires to earn her Master’s degree after becoming a RDN. • Lori will graduate this May with high honors and will be entering the ISU Dietetic Internship in Pocatello in August. Angelina’s community nutrition project this fall went above and beyond the course requirements.  She learned from the dietitian at the cancer clinic that nearly 50% of of their patients cannot afford and did not qualify for financial aid to purchase needed nutrition supplements. She partnered with all five of the Super One stores to provide a bar code.  During one month (national cancer month), volunteers stood outside of Super One stores and asked shoppers to donate supplements.  They receive a bar code that was scanned at check out.  The supplements were picked up and stored by Second Harvest for future distribution.  This project was one of many that Angelina completed with excellence while she was a student in the Coordinated Program in Dietetics.        Idaho Academy of Nutrition & Dietetics
