  3. All you want to know about Rotary

  4. Rotary is open to all persons from the age of twenty onwards. Rotary is colour and gender blind and is looking for open-minded caring people to join. Why join Rotary? Here are some of the reasons.

  5. Friendship: In an increasingly complex world, Rotary provides one of the most basic human needs: the need for friendship and fellow- ship. It is one of the two reasons why Rotary began. Personal Growth & Development: Membership in Rotary continues one’s growth and education in human relations and personal development. Leadership Development: Rotary is an organization of leaders and successful people.

  6. Citizenship in the Community: Membership in a Rotary club makes one a better community citizen. The average Rotary club consists of the most active citizens of any community. Fun: Rotary is fun, a lot of fun. Each meeting is fun. The club projects are fun. Social activities are fun. The service is fun.

  7. Citizenship in the World: Every Rotarian wears a pin that says “Rotary International”. There are few places on the globe that do not have a Rotary club. Every Rotarian is welcome, even encouraged, to attend any of the 32.176 clubs in 168 nations worldwide. This means instant friends in both one’s own community and in the world community. The Development of Social Skills: Rotary develops one’s personality, social skills, and people skills. Rotary is for people who like people.

  8. The Development of Ethics: Rotarians practise a 4-Way Test that governs one’s ethical standards both at home and in the workplace. Rotarians are expected to be ethical in business and personal relationships. The Four Way Test: Of the things we think, say or do: 1.) Is it the truth? 2.) Is it fair to all concerned? 3.) Will it build goodwill and better friendship? 4.) Will it be beneficial to all concerned?

The Pilot Project • The Club Assembly, convened on the 5th of June 2001, approved the following resolutions , which are to be incorporated into the Club's constitution for a period of 3 years. • Frequency of Meetings • Once a week for Lunch • Attendance • There will be no attendance requirement. However, significant participation in Club and Project activities are a • requirement to be and to remain a member. The Club will monitor this. • Classification • The classification requirement for membership is discontinued. The Club will seek applications and proposals • from suitable candidates in the community and the public in general. • Membership • The Club has the discretion to actively conduct membership drives, through advertising, promotional activities • and other means. Persons applying for membership will be accepted, after the Board has given careful • consideration. • Board Members • The Board will consist of the President, Secretary, Treasurer, 6 Board Members, President-elect and Past • President. • The Board will jointly be in charge of the following avenues of service and will report back to the Club on all • aspects of activity. • Avenues of Service • Club Services, Community Services, Vocational Services,International Services, Fundraising, Social Events • Monthly Service Committee meetings will no longer take place. Instead Project Leaders will be appointed for all • Club Projects. They will select their own committees and will hold meetings, when and where necessary. There • will be a contact person for every Avenue of Service, in order to ensure an adequate management structure for • all aspects of Club life. • The first Tuesday of every month is designated to be the regular Club Assembly day of the Club. Should no • input be received by the members for the Assembly, the meeting will then become a Business Meeting, with • Board and Project Leaders reporting on current activities. • Cost • The Club will endeavour to contain the cost of being a Rotarian by all means at its disposal. A Presidents Fund • will be established to fund this commitment. An entrance fee, when joining the Club, will no longer be imposed. • Service Committees we re-introduced in the Rotary Year 2002-2003 • The Council of Legislation has extended the Pilot Project time limit to the 30th of June 2007

  10. The Rotary International Theme 2006-2007 Lead the Way Rotary is so much more than the sum of its parts. Every programme of Rotary — the club and district activities, the scholarships and exchanges, and the vast and varied humanitarian projects — serves a different purpose. No two clubs anywhere are exactly alike, and it is this diversity that is our strength. Together, we show the world that a better future is possible anywhere and everywhere and that generosity of spirit, tolerance for differences, and high moral values are not obstacles to success but the path to success. In a world full of ethical challenges, where cooperation among countries and tolerance of differences is so vital to peace, Rotary provides a much-needed example of solid integrity, international cooperation, and the spirit of volunteerism. My theme for the 2006-07 Rotary year, Lead the Way, reflects my belief in the power of Rotarians to change the world. Together, 1.2 million Rotarians will Lead the Way to a brighter future through fellowship and service. W.B. (Bill) Boyd President, Rotary International, 2006-07

  12. The Opportunity to Serve: Rotary is a service club. Its business is mankind. Its product is service. Rotarians provide community service to both local and international communities. This is perhaps the best reason for becoming a Rotarian: the chance to do something for somebody else; to sense the self-fulfillment that comes in the process. It is richly rewarding. If you feel you are that kind of person, who enjoys other people and who wants to improve the quality of life in our community, why not join Rotary?
