    11. IEC/IECEE International Conference, Bahrain 2009-12-08 11/18 Touching briefly on the history, the IEC was founded in London in June 1906 by the “developed” nations of the time. It was one of the world’s first such organizations and was founded by a market need to find common terminology for electrotechnology and to encourage interoperability of the nascent technology. The IEC is a hybrid type of non-governmental organization – often referred to a quasi-governmental. We have observer status with the United Nations, and a lot of government input. But fundamentally, the IEC is influenced the most, just like it was in 1906, by industry, by the market players. The IEC is a one-country, one-vote organization whose participants work through the fully representative National Committees. In the 100 years of the IEC’s history, the Commission has evolved into THE global provider of international electrotechnical standards and the provider of globally recognized conformity assessment systems for the global market.Touching briefly on the history, the IEC was founded in London in June 1906 by the “developed” nations of the time. 15. IEC/IECEE International Conference, Bahrain 2009-12-08 15/18 Because Globalization and competition are leading to rapid changes, technical barriers to trade remain a serious problem and the industry is anxious about time to market, the shortening life cycle of products and the need to reduce costs the CB Scheme is the right tool to reduce obstacles to international trade that may arise from having to meet different national certification or approval criteria and processesBecause Globalization and competition are leading to rapid changes, technical barriers to trade remain a serious problem and the industry is anxious about time to market, the shortening life cycle of products and the need to reduce costs the CB Scheme is the right tool to reduce obstacles to international trade that may arise from having to meet different national certification or approval criteria and processes
