Book Summary Due 1/31 • Verbs: • Complete W&G, page 498, Ex. 5 & 6 • Set on Corner of Desk when complete • Read Quietly  • Grade Ex. 5 & 6 • Your pen/pencil on floor • Use marker provided by teacher (Do NOT choose yellow!) • Put X by incorrect answers • Write number wrong at top

  2. Page 498, Ex. 5 1. Have you ever seen a great spotted kiwi? 2. They have been found only in New Zealand and on nearby islands. 3. Like the large ostrich, kiwis have never flown through the air. 4. We had not known that kiwis hide themselves beneath their thick plumage. 5. Often, we see that kiwis have come to forage for food such as worms, seeds, and berries.

  3. Page 498, Ex. 6 1. Researchers have studied the Chilean flamingo. 2. It has been found in the Andes Mountains. 3. The flamingo feeds by dipping its head under water.(Note: The verb must have the –s) 4. I am watching one trap food in its bill. 5. The same one caught a lot of food earlier today. 6. The flamingo’s upper jaw fits over its lower jaw like the lid of a box. (Note the –s) 7. We are learning that the food source affects the color of the flamingo’s feathers. 8. Yesterday, we saw the greater flamingo, which is larger than other flamingos. 9. It had built a nest on a cone-shaped mound in the water. 10. Then, it took good care of its young for seventy-five days.
