  3. M2TEC Objective A research, training, education center with focus on advanced manufacturing and materials technology solutions through a custom, modular, and sustainable approach

  4. M2TEC Rationale • Contribute to the national and state initiatives in the areas of manufacturing • 12.5% of the labor force (Ohio) works in the manufacturing sector with average annual compensation $72,500 • Future manufacturing sectors will require retraining and education • Leverage the uniqueness of Miami University’s Mechanical and Manufacturing Program • One of few accredited manufacturing programs in nation (only 22 nationwide) • MME offers strong expertise in materials and manufacturing • Develop a synergistic approach to enhance faculty research and opportunities of experiential learning • Complement existing curriculum activities to increase workforce preparedness • Expand the scope of faculty research in emerging areas • Scale-up the successful training workshops offered to professionals • Demand for increased frequency of offered workshop by WPAFB • Interest from additional clients (ONR, FESTO etc.) • Build ongoing consulting ties between faculty and industries • Recent requests for consulting services • Create formal mechanisms for providing technical services and training

M2TEC: Target Audience • M2TEC will have opportunity to be part of Ohio Manufacturing Extension Partnership MEP center • Local company/engineers may choose to participate in workshop for professional development or part time (flexible) graduate certificate • UG and Grad Cert: MME students (Mechanical, Engineering Management), MME related associate degree holders from Ohio’s Community colleges, local professionals etc. • M2TEC online modules and in-house workshops (flexibility for traditional and non-traditional students)

M2TEC Focus Area • Advanced and Sustainable Machining: utilization of EDM, ultrasonic, etc. processes • Materials Characterization: Structure-property analysis of metallic and polymeric materials • Additive Manufacturing: Focusing on metal 3D printing to produce functional parts • Multifunctional Materials: Multiscale (nano to macro) material design and fabrication
