  4. CAPT: Third Generation Mathematics Test assesses a student’s ability to compute and estimate, solve problems, and communicate their understanding across four content standards: Algebraic Reasoning Numerical and Proportional Reasoning Geometry and Measurement Working with Data: Probability and Statistics Test includes 8 open-ended and 24 grid-in items. 11. CAPT: Third Generation As you can see, the CAPT test is very demanding and some do not reach the proficient stage. However, some have missed the next level by just one point. EVERY POINT COUNTS. Do not give up. Scratch for every point you can.

  12. CAPT: Third Generation Who scores the test? • The CAPT testing contractor scores the test using trained readers – various sites throughout the country. • All scoring criteria and training materials are developed by Connecticut advisory committees/state department staff.

  13. The Mathematics test is administered in two 75-minute testing sessions and includes a combination of 24 grid-in and 8 open-ended (short-answer) questions. The grid-in questions require the students to compute an answer or solve a problem and then bubble the solution into a grid. The grid-in items are scored electronically as either correct or incorrect; however, there may be several correct answers for an item. The open-ended questions require students to solve mathematical problems by showing their work or explaining their reasoning. Open-ended items are scored by trained readers using a four-point holistic scale (0–3). A state Goal standard has been set for the Mathematics test. Students who reach the state Goal receive a Certificate of Mastery in Mathematics.

  14. 2009 CAPT Schedule CAPT Testing Window February 22 - March 11, 2011 The following are mandated testing dates: All testing must be completed within the testing window.
