Comparative Study on Effect of Fly Ash and Rice Husk Ash on Strength of Concrete

The construction of concrete pavement is growing across the country due to its strength, durability, better serviceability and overall economy in long run. The need is to develop better quality pavement sections, which can bear heavy loads. This can be achieved by using high compressive strength concrete 40MPa made up of hydraulic cement having fine and course aggregates. In the work embodied construction work is done with the help of wastage from industry. Fly ash is a by product of burned coal from thermal plants and Rice husk ash is the by product of burned rice husk from paper plant. Considerably Fly ash and Rice husk ash are used as supplementary cementing materials to improve the properties of cement concrete. The present study is done to develop pavement quality concrete by partially replacement cement with Fly Ash and Rice Husk Ash. The aim of study is to compare the strength characterises of pavement concrete which as achieved by concrete mixtures. The work done in this study shows the effects on the behaviour of concrete produced from cement with combination of FA and RHA at different proportions on the mechanical properties of concrete such as compressive strength, flexural strength. The replacement of cement were done at three levels is 10 , 20 and 30 with both Fly ash and Rice husk ash as well as combination of both Fly ash and Rice husk ash. The tests on hardened concrete were destructive in nature which includes compressive test on cube for size 150 x 150 x 150 mm at 7 and 28 days of curing as per IS 516 1959, Flexural strength on beam 150 x 150 x700 mm at 28 days of curing as per IS 516 1959. The samples were prepared with different water cement ratio as 0.30, 0.35 and 0.40 for flexure design i.e. 5.5 MPa, 5.0 MPa and 4.5 MPa respectively. The result so obtained showed that it is possible to achieve saving in cement if replacement is done. The study proves to be beneficial in area where traffic load is less, also will use wastage released from thermal plants and rice mills also reduces economy as this materials is easily available. The waste material from industries is in bulk amount, as lesser amount of these used as supplementary cementing materials so these can be used as filling soil in subgrade of highway pavement. Experimental Study on the Properties of Rice Husk Ash with A.A.A Portland Cement

In the last decades, the use of residue in civil construction, especially in addition to concrete, has been subject of many researches due to reduce the environmental pollution factors, it may lead several improvements of the concrete properties. Myanmar is one of the largest rice producing countries and per capita rice consumption is higher than that in any other countries. Considering that 20 of the grain is husk, and 20 of the husk after combustion is converted into ash. In this study, the chemical composition and physical properties of A.A.A Portland cement are tested. The rice husk ash RHA is obtained from Shwebo. And then, the ingredients of mortar and concrete such as sand and aggregate are tested. In this study, Ayeyarwaddy rivers sand is used. According to the silica content, the replacement percentage of RHA is considered as 0 , 5 , 10 , 15 and 20 by weight of cement. Finally, the compressive and tensile strength of mortar, and compressive strength of concrete are tested with various percentages of RHA. The results were compared to control sample and the viability of adding RHA to concrete is verified. Analysis of the Characteristic behaviour of Concrete with Rice Husk Ash and Sugarcane Bagasse Ash

In the last decades, the use of residue in construction industry, especially as additives in concrete, has been subject of many researches as it may lead several improvements in the concrete properties, besides reducing the environmental pollution. The world rice harvest is estimated in 600 million tons per year. In terms of production sugarcane tops the crop ranking order. In India alone there grows 352 million tons of sugarcane and processed by 138 sugar mills. Considering that 22 of the grain is husk. So both the rice husk and sugarcane bagasse ash are complete waste and can be used as substitutes in concrete. The RHA and Sugarcane bagasse ash were trialed to replace concrete with various ratios of RHA 0 , 10 , 20 , 30 and 40 with fine aggregates and SCBA 0 , 5 , 10 , 15 and 20 with cement. The water cement ratio in all the mixes was maintained at 0.55. From the experimentations it was inferred the modified specimen resulted in number of improvement of properties of cement. The observed increase in compressive strength of concrete is maximum, when the conventional concrete is modified with 15 SCBA and 30 RHA. With this percentage modification there seen increase in both 28 as well as 7 days compressive strength. There observed considerable reduction in slump value yet keeping the mix workable or in other words we can say that modification of concrete by SCBA and RHA do not adversely affect the workability. The 28 day split tensile strength test revealed that the inferences of compressive strength test and split tensile strength were somehow similar to one another. More the application of SCBA and RHA, lesser are their disposal problems and thus results in reduction of carbon credits by these waste products. This study aimed at assessing the suitability of FA and RHA from Misamis Oriental, Philippines in producing bricks that can possibly be used for pedestrian and light traffic purposes.
