  1. Lori Pirrone - Components of a Spartan Race Lori Pirrone is a runner and has participated in a couple of Spartan Races in the past. If you have never taken part in a Spartan Race before, you might be left wondering how to train for one. Spartan races are obstacle course races where your physical and mental limits will be challenged as you compete with others. In a Spartan Race, you will come across mud, barbed wire, including a field of Gladiators waiting to hit you with their pugil sticks. Lori Pirrone is an active person and enjoys running to stay fit. Running is one of the easiest ways you can exercise and stay fit. Lori Pirrone has participated in Spartan Races and offers a couple of tips that can help you run your race. Endurance Training The first thing you need to know is that though the race is only three to four miles, it is not that easy to complete. While you might be able to complete a 5k marathon in under 30 minutes, a Spartan Sprint will take anywhere between 45 minutes and two hours (or more) to complete. To prepare for the race, you will have to train well in advance. Start by training yourself by taking long runs at least once a week. You want to build up your endurance before race day. You should be comfortable running, at least, six miles or more. Being able to run long distances will prepare you to handle the short, intense terrain of the Spartan Race. Hills and Sprint Training The only thing you can expect in a Spartan Race is the unexpected. When you are training for a Spartan Race, you will need to get comfortable with feeling uncomfortable. Spartan Races are intense and will challenge you and push you to your limit. You will need to prepare yourself to face some tough hills, so while training, make sure you train on a hill at least once a week. Include sprints or interval workouts in your training to build up your anaerobic threshold. Training on sprints will enable you to recover quicker between hills and obstacles. You might want to start with short intervals and increase the duration and intensity over time. Full Body Strength Circuits You will need to work on your upper and lower body to prepare yourself to handle the grueling Spartan Race. Some of the things you can do to build up your lower and upper body include push-ups and pull-ups, lunges, squats, climbing over a wall, Herculean hoist, box jumps, carrying a sandbag uphill. Include some plyometric exercises to help you get over any jumping exercises you might encounter during the race. Lori Pirrone knows the importance of training properly before participating in a Spartan Race. To Learn MoreAbout Lori Pirrone VisitAt : http://www.slideshare.net/loripirrone
