The Glens Angling Club has been working for many years to encourage the stocks of Salmon in all the rivers of The Glens The Club has applied, without success, for numerous grants In November 2011 informed of the possibility of funding for a project to improve the habitat of the upper reaches of the River Dun

  3. Project • To construct 15 Dams to provide gravel spawning pools in • the upper reaches of The River Dun • To plant about 16 indigenous trees at each pool • Project Administered by Causeway Coast and Glens • Funded by a grant from • The Northern Ireland Environment Agency • “NGO Challenge Fund” • In consultation and assistance of DCAL NI

Time Line • November 2011 ~ Advised of possibility of Grant from • NIEA NGO Challenge Fund • 5th January 2012 ~ Application for funding submitted and managed • by The Causeway Coast & Heritage Trust • 10th January 2012 ~ Application deadline • 16th January 2012 ~ Informed that that funding had been granted • ( £10,000 available. Match funded by work in kind • by The Glens Angling Club in the form of Labour • and Ground Works) • February 2012 ~ 3 weekends work completed by Club Members • 15th March 2012 ~ Project completed and fully accounted, on time

  5. Planned Improvements • Construction of 15 Gravel Beds • (Spawning Beds) • Planting of about • 16 native indigenous trees • at each site

  6. Construction of Gravel Beds • 300mm planks securely dug into both river banks • Hessian Roll laid around planks • Boulders placed to support • Clean Round Gravel laid to form bed • (mixture of 60mm gravel to coarse sand)

  7. Tree Planting • About 16 trees were planted • at each of the beds • Indigenous trees were chosen • Stakes and stock proof fencing • installed to protect the young • trees

  8. Completion of Project Required by 15th March, 2012 On Tuesday 13th March a site visit arranged to view The satisfactory completion of our work
