  4. How do you create a shared vision? The tools for improving instruction include: Laying the foundation Designing your approach Creating a culture of continuous improvement Reflective Process Action Process

  5. Talk! It Starts With Me! How would you describe effective teaching? Does your school or district have a shared understanding of what kind of teaching you need in your classrooms? If yes, write down the shared vision. If not, should you? When a school does not have a shared understanding of effective teaching, what is the consequence on student learning?

  6. Where do you want to be? Big Goals Why did you choose MAP? What do you hope to achieve? Smaller Goals-Measures of Success How are you going to get there? What will it look like? How will you know you are making progress?

  14. Study – Assess Your Progress Do we have a shared vision? How has using data provided opportunities for sharing with my colleagues? Do I see evidence of student growth? Have we created a cycle of continuous improvement?

  15. Act-Begin somewhere! • Use the data to change: • instructional focus (targeted areas of concern) • curriculum • instructional strategies (flexible grouping, differentiated instruction, etc.) • Share with my colleagues- • Successful strategies • Resources and materials • Planning Time

  16. Persistence . . . not perfection

  17. Wisdom Begin challenging your own assumptions. Your assumptions are your windows on the world. Scrub them off every once in awhile, or the light won’t come in. Alan Alda
