Goal: Poverty Alleviation and Empowerment of Namibians to enter the Tourism Industry • Overall Goal: To improve living standards in Communal & Urban areas • Program Objective: “Community increase income and employment from tourism” • 1. To improve and develop viable enterprises • 2. To integrate community based tourism into the Tourism industry • 3. Professional support services and long-term sustainability

  4. Regions • North Central • Caprivi Region • Kunene Region • Erongo Region • Southern Regions (Karas and Hardap)

  5. North Central RegionsTourism Objective: To develop sufficient quality cultural and historical products to make North Central demand driven destination (Brand) • Outputs • 10 Operators include at least one CBTE in their regular tours • 6 sustainable CBTE’s (accommodation based) • Ensure accommodation registered with NTB • 6 Attraction based developments (Historical Sites) • Regional step on guides • 4x guides registered with NTB • Explore Parks and Neighbours • Development of Tourism Route (Signage/Marketing) • 2x Joint Venture agreements • Transfontier dev. • Pilot Study on Domestic Tourism

Caprivi RegionTourism Objective: To reestablish Caprivi as tourist destination and strethening existing products and diversity and expand new products and diversify (maximize benefits through transfontier tourism) • Outputs • 4-5 existing products sustainable • 5x new products and diversify / expand • Finalise Joint Venture agreements (9 lodges) • Manage existing agreements • Expand accommodation products with food and beverages • Guiding with potentially dangerous game • 4x guides registered with NTB • Accommodation registered with NTB • Identify Transfontier Tourism dev. (destination marketing)

Kunene RegionTourism Objective: To improve tourism product and to diversify it with more activities, to brand the region as an eco-tourism destination and to do the management of tourists • Outputs • X12 products existing sustainable • 8x new products (identified from tourism plans) • Route development and marketing • Tourism Plan / Product audit • Completion of outstanding Tourism Plans (Conservancy levels) • Facilitate further joint venture agreements and managing existing agreements • Pilot study on traversing rights/ user rights of conservancies (start with two conservancies)

  8. Erongo RegionTourism Objective: To ensure quality tourism products and to diversify the range and type of CBT products available • Outputs • 6 existing products sustainable • 4 new products (from tourism plans) • Assist upcoming SME establish good / products and services • Develop and market key tourism routes (4x4 trails) • 20-40 guides are registered with NTB • Ensure accommodation registered with NTB • Introduce and market a cultural-heritage route with emphasise/ interpretation rock art in the region / conservation • Activity based products (hiking, elephant and Rhino tracking, small mining tours (Uis), specialised rock-art tours) • Complete outstanding tourism plans (Conservancy level) • Development of further joint ventures & follow through existing agreements

Southern Regions: Tourism Objective: To establish the south as demand driven tourism destination with quality products and a route (brand) • Outputs • Route development from market research study • 2x existing accommodation facilities sustainable • 4x new activities / Information centers • 4x guides registered with the NTB • Ensure that accommodation is registered with NTB

  21. Quality Standards Registration (registration and liability) • Quality is understood and strived for by CBTE’s through training • Enterprises and guides are registered with Namibia Tourism Board • Liability of the enterprises covered by proper insurance

  22. SME Support Centre • Provide business support to SME’s • Preference to work with SMEs and CBTE’s with well defined management structures
