  2. General Rules....Mrs. Kelley’s Pet Peeves • If its not yours DO NOT TOUCH!!!! • No dirty tools, supplies and areas. Don’t give me an artattack. • If everyone cleans their area then no ones has to do end of week jobs! • Use all time in the studio productively. • Projects may only be stored ON YOUR SHELF. Nowhere else in the room unless cleared with me first.

  3. Studio Practices • Storage • Plastic containers labeled with masking tape • Shelf labeled with masking tape • Everything must be covered at the end of class, • Use a bag or plastic if its too large for your conatiner • UNLESS… you are completely finished and ready to fire.

  4. Cleaning • Ceramics is messy. • Last 5-7 minutes are for cleaning and storage. When the TIME TIMER goes off its time to start wrapping up worktime. • Every class: • Wipe table/counter space used • Clean tools/supplies used • Return scrap clay to its correct container • Clean wheel if used • Return all glaze to the correct spot • Seal project, place all work on YOUR SHELF

  5. Carts for Firing • IF ITS NOT YOURS DON’T TOUCH IT!!!!!!!!! • Bisque cart (1st firing) • No name No way!! • Bone dry clay only. • Glaze Cart (2nd firing) • DO NOT TOUCH PIECES TOGETHER! • Leave space between projects. • Glaze must be cleaned off the bottoms of projects.

  6. Technology Use • Personal music is allowed if: • It is during student work time, not instruction • Headphones are used at all times • Mrs. Kelley can not hear the music • No warnings. If I hear it, it goes away • Headphones are removed when instruction starts • Personal devices are not out on the table.

  7. What do I do with this Clay? Bone Dry reclaim box, Under wedging table • ITS TOO DRY • ITS TOO WET(thrown scraps) • USABLE/ EXTRA Gray Clay Barrels Clay Bags on counter

  9. Gargoyle History • Originated as spouting on cathedrals. • “Gargoyle” is derived from the latin word for throat.

  10. Contemporary Artist • Catt Audett Holt and Rich Holt from Baltimore MD. • Functional forms

  11. Challenge: • Demonstrate your basic ceramic skills by creating a gargoyle/monster that is a combination of at least 2 animals. • Use the following skills/techniques: • Score, slip, stitch • Texture • Hollowing • Additive/Subtractive • Use of various Modeling tools

  12. Homework • 2 reference photos due next class. • Sept. • Sketch of your gargoyle or monster.
