META-T pilot project aims to enhance ocean temperature information by recommending metadata use, including real-time updates and delayed-mode data transmission formats. The project involves collaboration with various data streams and ongoing actions from the ETMC relating to metadata fields inclusion. You can find more details on the project's current status, future plans, membership, and opportunities for volunteering on the project's website.

Water temperature metadata pilot project META-T Elanor Gowland, Chair META-T SOT-IV, 16th–21st April 2007
Aim The aim of the water temperature metadata pilot project (META-T PP) is:- To investigate and recommend the use of metadata to improve the quality and usefulness of ocean temperature information, particularly in real-time. Website http://marinemetadata.org/metat
Current status Workshop 28th – 29th March 2006 at ECMWF, Reading, UK 2 documents:- - Categorisation of metadata - Requirements matrix Data stream reports:- • VOS • XBT (SOOP) • Moored buoys • Drifting buoys • Argo
Plans for the future • Each data stream compared to the metadata categorisation and matrix • Recommendations can be made what to include in: - real-time (incl. BUFR, TT-Coding) • delayed-mode transmission formats (push / pull) through documentation and trial • Trial (within data streams) including data transmission and storage (ODAS & NOAA)
Actions from ETMC relating to META-T • Work with the Task Team on Delayed Mode VOS data flow (TT-DMVOS) to change the delayed-mode exchange format • Work on BUFR to ensure metadata fields included for all data streams • Liaise with NMDIS over ODAS metadata database to enable it to meet user requirements and agree a format to exchange / ingest metadata (perhaps XML) – link to SOT TT-Coding?
Request for SOT to take part! • Look at website http://marinemetadata.org/metat • Work with current member of META-T or volunteer to take part, particularly help will be required to produce & review documents, develop metadata ingestion / distribution formats and aid trial(s) by providing systems / vessels / platforms, specifications for data storage (server spec), etc
Questions & Comments Or volunteers!
