Vain Worship • Traditions supplanted the commandment of God • Nullifying God’s law • Jesus’ reply shows where man’s commitment must be Matthew 15:1-9 But He answered and said, “Every plant which My heavenly Father has not planted will be uprooted. “Let them alone. They are blind leaders of the blind…..” Matthew 15:13-14

  3. Ignorant Worship • Although religious, their service was not pleasing to God • Worship centered on the physical – not on God • Well intentioned people goin the wrong direction • Because they areignorant of the truth Acts 17:22-31

  4. True Worship • Jesus taught about worship pleasing to God • True worship today is found in the New Testament – not the Old Testament • Ephesians 2:14-15 John 4:23-24 SPIRIT: With sincerity, from the heart TRUTH: According to God’s will in the New Testament

  5. Acts of Worship • Instituted on the night Jesus was betrayed • Apostle Paul recounts that night: • 1 Corinthians 11:23-32 • Taken in remembrance of Jesus on the1st day of the week • Acts 20:7 Lord’s Supper Bread represents Jesus’ broken body Cup represents His shed blood

  6. Acts of Worship • Has a dual purpose of praisingGod and exhorting others • Colossians 3:16 • Ephesians 5:19 • From our heart to our Father • Teach and admonish one another • Hearts more important than voices Singing

  7. Acts of Worship • Paul tells us how to givefor the work of the church • 1 Corinthians 16:1-2 • Giving should be donecheerfully • 2 Corinthians 9:6-7 Giving

  8. Acts of Worship • Pray without ceasing • 1 Thessalonians 5:17 • Lend our hearts to the words Prayer

  9. Acts of Worship • Seeks to evangelize oredify with scripture • Teaches truth • Extends the invitation • Listen attentively Teaching God’s message for mankind

  10. Vain, Ignorant, or True Let us not be guilty of vain or ignorant worship Worship in the proper Spirit and Truth We are here toplease God, not man
