  2. Translation 我宁可乘出租车回家,也不愿意走着回家。 Rather than walking home/going home on foot, I would like to take a taxi. 我认为与其说他是老师更大程度上不如说是为朋友。 I think he is a friend rather than a teacher.

  3. Translation 校长的儿子从不把自己看作是一个特殊的学生。 The son of the president never sees himself as a special student. 任何情况下都不能把自己看成是没用的人。 Don’t see yourself as a useless person in any case.

  4. Translation 邓小平这个名字已经和中国的改革联系在一起了。 The name Deng Xiaoping has been associated with China’s reform. 工人们已经把效率与金钱联系起来了。 The workers have associated efficiency with money.

  5. Translation 请记住,压力可以变成动力。 Please bear in mind that pressure can be turned into motivation. 几年来许多农田已经变成了工厂。 In recent years lots of fields has been turned into factories.

  11. Grammar Grammar on agreement 1. 谓语动词用单数的情况 a)当主语是集合名词但当整体来看时 e.g. The committee has ten to twenty members. 常见的集合名词有:band , class, crowd, enemy, family, nation, party, public, audience, committee, team 等。 没有复数形式的集合名词有: cattle, the military, people(人民),the police 等

There was a succession of little shocks for two days. The number of private colleges has increased. The variety of dogs is very useful for hunting. Many a student doesn’t speak English fluently. A pair of boots is all that he wants. More than one person has protested against the proposal.

Grammar Grammar on agreement 2.下列情况谓语动词用复数形式 a)集合名词被当成是若干成员时 e.g. The committee have not reached an agreement. • 当主语是A variety /number of +n. 或Varieties of +n. 或More than +基数词+(复数)或The +adj.(表示人)时 e.g. There a wide variety of people on the earth. A number of my friends think I should take a holiday. All the sick have been taken care of by the nurses. More than a thousand inhabitants have signed the petition.

  15. Grammar Grammar on agreement • 并列主语为either…or; neither …nor; not…but; not only…but also等并列连词结构或there be 句型时,谓语动词的形式与采取就近原则,即与最近的主语一致。 e.g. She thought you or your husband was angry at this. There are two books and a pen on the desk. There is a pen and two books on the desk.
