Objective #33: What you will learn . . . • Techniques and tips to help you in a job interview in the United States. • Expectations about what a typical job interview is like. • How to write a résumé. • Helpful vocabulary that can be used during a job interview and on your résumé.
Objective #33: • Even if you are not currently looking for job, the vocabulary and skills that you will learn in these lessons will help prepare you for the future—when you might apply for a job. • If you do not plan to work in the U.S., consider these lessons a helpful way to learn new vocabulary and practice speaking/fluency skills …as well as computer skills (résumé).
After we have studied the EL Civics lessons in class, students will take an assessment test. You will do: • An oral assessment • A written assessment *Our assessment dates will be: Monday + Tuesday, Nov. 7 and 8th
Oral Assessment: A “mock” (simulated) interview You will play the role of a job applicant in an interview. • You will imagine a job position you are applying for • You will answer typical job interview questions
Written Assessment: Create a résumé • You will create a résumé based on your skills, education, work and volunteer experience. • We will have some computer class time in the lab to work on this!

Job Interview Tips: • Shake hands with the interviewer. • Smile and maintain good posture. • Make eye contact. • Speak loudly enough and as clearly as possible! Speak at a good speed…not too fast and not too slow. • Be prepared; practice your answers before the “job interview.”
Come to class often so you can practice and prepare for the assessments! This is your opportunity to work with another teacher who will evaluate your oral and written skills. Assessments
