Volunteer Opportunities • If you are interested in volunteering in your child’s classroom or grade level please contact your child’s teacher. • Please make sure and fill out a background check. You may do this online on the NISD website.
Drop Off Information Please do not drop your child off before 7:20 am. Teachers are on duty in their classrooms until the first bell rings. The students need to be in the classrooms by no later than 7:45. It is recommended they be here at 7:40 . Instruction begins promptly. Please try to avoid being tardy because your child may miss out on valuable information.

Expectations in the Morning (7:20- 7:45) • Students are expected to calmly enter the room. • When students arrive there will be a task for the students to complete to begin focusing on the days activities.

Speeding to Read(Million Word Challenge) • STR is a reading incentive program done in partnership with Texas Motor Speedway. • There will be 4 turns with various incentives and assemblies! • The first turn closes on September 27th –5th grade goal is 5 chapter books. • Students will track their progress and get a parent signature. Students have a “tracker.” • The goals are a challenge and we will encourage all students to do their very best!
Expectations in Specials • Students will attend PE / Health three days per week. (Tennis shoes are required during PE.) • Art once a week. • Music once a week. • 7:55-8:50 is our specials time.
Pick-Up Information ALL students with siblings will be picked up in the front of the school, including kindergarten and first graders. The only car riders who will be picked up on the south side of the building will be kindergarten and first graders who DO NOT have a sibling at Haslet Elementary.
Pick- Up Information Continued… The bell rings at 2:40 pm. If you would like to pick up your child prior to 2:45 pm, you must go to the office and sign your child out. The office will then call the classroom and have the child sent to the office with his/her things. Please send a note with your child if their mode of transportation changes. If you forget to send a note, please call the office before 2:25 PM.
Classroom Expectations • We have high expectations for your child while they are in our classrooms. • This includes the following but is not limited to: be on task, follow directions and procedures, respect each other, and practice appropriate behavior outside the classroom. • If these expectations are not met they will have their behavior chart marked in their planner. • The planner will be sent home daily. It must be signed on Fridays and we will check it on Mondays.
Behavior • Negative Behavior • is divided into the categories found on the report card • Will be written into the students binder on the day it occurred. • Will be tallied on this behavior sheet for the Six Weeks
Positive Behavior • Each student will be given a “debit card”. • Positive behavior and work maybe rewarded with a “deposit” on that student’s debit card. • Students may “purchase” privileges, (stinky feet passes, sit in special chair, etc) with points. • Loss of their debit card will result in them starting over with a zero balance.
Eagles in Flight Information • Qualifications: The student will: • Pass all subjects on report card. • More than 3 tardies = loss of half of EIF; More than 6 tardies = no EIF • NO more than 2 “specials slips” per six weeks • Discipline Referral results in an automatic disqualification • Assume responsibility for appropriate behavior by following the “Code of Conduct”. • Have all assignments turned in completed, on time, and show QUALITY and thoughtful work.
Snacks Since the brain works better when fed frequently, we will provide time for a healthy morning snack. The teachers will not be providing the snack. Recent state legislation requires that only nutritional snacks be permitted. These include: pretzels animal crackers goldfish graham crackers raisins popped corn trail mix crackers veggies Ritz Bits fruit
Snack cont. • Please make sure that snacks do not require cooking, forks or spoons. • Bottles of water are permitted, but the bottle will need to have a sports top. • Please no flavored water of any kind or sports drinks.
5th Grade: Math- April 1 Reading- April 2 Science-April 23 This is a SSI year for 5th graders.

5th Grade Action Plan • We are going to use workshop/inquiry learning in content area. • Problem solving in journals. • They will create and respond to open-ended questions in content areas.
