Leveraging Insurance to Address Dzud Challenges in Mongolia

In August 2011, the IBLI Project Director Ulziibold “Bold” Yadamsuren presented at the SDC Mid-year Review Meeting in Ulaanbaatar, focusing on the issue of Dzud, which affects herders in Mongolia. The presentation discussed the "Big Issue" posed by dzud and proposed potential solutions including removing obstacles and providing support to herders like Dambii. The final chapter explored a novel insurance leverage model designed to improve herders' resilience. This collaborative effort involves the Government of Mongolia, global reinsurers, and local herder groups, emphasizing innovative approaches for sustainable management.
