Osmosis Review . 1. Hypertonic solutions. Plant cells  the central vacuole loses water and the cells shrink causing wilting. Animal cells  shrink ( plasmolysis ). 2. Hypotonic Solution. Plant cells  CV fills with water, plant becomes stiff and rigid, CW keeps the plant from bursting.

  2. 1. Hypertonic solutions • Plant cells the central vacuole loses water and the cells shrink causing wilting. • Animal cells shrink (plasmolysis)

  3. 2. Hypotonic Solution • Plant cellsCV fills with water, plant becomes stiff and rigid, CW keeps the plant from bursting • Animal cells swell, may burst (“LYSIS”)

  4. 3. Isotonic solutions • Plant cells • Equilibrium • Animal cells - water moves back and forth – no change – GOOD!!!
