Florida Solar Energy Center • Created by the Florida Legislature in 1975 to serve as the state’s energy research institute • The primary mission of the center is to conduct research, test and certify solar systems and develop education programs • Through the Center’s efforts, thousands have been trained in solar system installation since the 1970s

  4. Florida Solar Energy Center Solar Water Heating Workshop • Objective: intensive training for solar water and pool heating technologies • Covers design, installation, troubleshooting, residential and commercial systems • Offered: Quarterly

  5. Florida Solar Energy Center Photovoltaics (Solar Electric) Workshop • Objective: Intensive course for design and installation of Photovoltaic technologies, including service and maintenance. • Offered: Monthly. Enrollment is restricted to 25 students to assure a quality experience in both classroom and laboratory sessions.

  6. Alternative Energy Banner Center • Created by Workforce Florida in 2008 • Industry driven education, training and employment opportunities • Focus is on solar electric and thermal technologies • Extend education through “Train the Trainer” program • Student instruction at the local level

Alternative Energy Banner Center 2008-9 four training partners: • Tallahassee Community College • Brevard Community College • Broward College • Westside Technical School Additional program participants: • Brevard Work Force Development Board • Florida Solar Energy Research and Education Foundation (FlaSEREF)

  8. Alternative Energy Banner Center • Program renewed early 2010 • Uniform curriculum, materials and credentials • On the job training through apprenticeships and internships • Develop program sustainability • Increase training provider network • Strengthen industry participation
