  7. Step 1 – Prep your Workspace Lay down some newspaper Filing = metal shavings = mess Have soap and water available Your hands will smell… and may turna beautiful shade of green Wear old clothes Not a big deal… just in case you’re messy

  8. Step 1.5 – Filing PURPOSE • Remove excess metal • Make sharp corners/edges • Keep flat surfaces flat, curved surfaced curved METHOD • File in a single direction, until all scratches are in that direction • Change direction 90° • Continue until all scratches are in new direction DO NOT FILE TOO HARD!!!

  9. Step 2 – Sand Paper Same method as filing All one direction, then the other Slower, but better Start at a low grit Removes scratches from files + divots Beware – removing old divots may reveal new ones Increase grit w/ a change in direction Gradually increase grit (200  400  800  1600) Only move on after removing all old scratches… otherwise you’ll have to start all over

  10. Step 3 – Finishing Touches Fine steel wool ~ 800 grit sandpaper Don’t use if you go higher Brasso It’s polish. Shiny Shiny! Borrow from the office Use an old t-shirt or soft rag to rub Brasso smells = polish outdoors Beware – filings in cloth will leave scratches

  11. Step 3 continued The MOST important step Keep repeating process Gets rid of dullness & small scratches You know you’re done when: Your bent looks like GOLD It blinds you Carry it in a soft cloth to prevent scratches DO NOT just throw it in your backpack!!!
