  4. FORMULATED QUESTION: • The population of the Philippines in 2013 according to Commission on Population(POPCOM) is about 190,000,000 in July 2013 estimate. If the Philippines population in 2019 doubles, what will the population be? How about if the Philippines population in 2025 triples? How about in 2030 the population of the Philippines is 4times increase?

  5. GIVEN: The population of the Philippines in 2013 is 190,000,000 .

  6. Step by step procedures in converting numbers into scientific notation Watch and learn

  7. a.) Convert 190,000,000 in scientific notation: Step 2:  Find the exponent. To do this, count the number of places from the new decimal point to the end of the number.  This decimal point is 8 places from the end of the number or where the decimal was originally. 1.90,000,000 (.) New decimal Original decimal point point Step 1: Place the decimal point after the first whole number digit and drop the zeros.  The number “1" is the first whole number. 1.90,000,000

  8. Therefore, the scientific notation of 190,000,000 Philippines population in 2013 is • Step 3: • Rewrite the number  by multiplying it by a power of ten. • Drop all zeros and • write your number (1.9) . •  This number must be • multiplied by a power of 10. • Your exponent will be • the number of places • that the decimal point • was moved.  Since the • decimal point was moved 8 • places, the exponent will be “8". (1.9 x 10) The Philippines population in 2013

  9. SOLUTIONs in the given problem.

  10. b.) If the Philippines population in 2019 is doubles. We have, 2013- 190,000,000 x 2 (or ) x 2 2019- (express in scientific notation) SOLUTIONS: () x 2 Multiply 2 by = Total Philippines population in 2019 Therefore, there would be about 380,000,000 number of people in 2019 if the Philippines population doubles. ILLUSTRATION:

  11. Philippines Population every 6years (2013 to 2019) years Population Growth

  12. c.) If the Philippines population in 2025 triples, we obtain: 2013- 190,000,000 x 3 (or x 3 2019- 380,000,000 2025- (express in scientific notation) SOLUTIONS: () x 2 Multiply 2 by = Total Philippines population in 2025 Therefore, there would be about 570,000,000 number of people if the Philippines population triples in 2025. ILLUSTRATION:

  13. Philippines Population every 6 years 2013 to 2025 years Population Growth

  14. d.) If the Philippines population in 2031 increase 4 times, we obtain: 2013- 190,000,000 x 4 () x 4 2019- 380,000,000 2025- 570,000,000 2031- (express in scientific notation) SOLUTIONS: Multiply 4 by = Total Philippines population in 2031 Therefore, there would be about 760,000,000 number of people if the Philippines population in 2031 increase 4 times. ILLUSRATION:

  15. Philippines Population every 6years (2013 to 2031) years Population Growth
