UIFSM update Jason Walmsley County School Meals Service Advisor Education & Lifelong Learning
Current Position • 46.5% Uptake – National 43% • 19 Schools with no facilities /hot provision • 59 school with transported meals • Around 480 schools operating in-house = 84% of schools
Capital Funding • Capital Funding £150m nationally • Essex award £3.157m – 4th largest allocation in England based upon £17 per pupil • 262 bids received – 6 rejected • Awards made to 256 schools totalling £3.84m • Schools making capital contribution of £800k • Contingency £100k (3%)
Other Funding Support for small schools: • Minimum 3k to support the implementation of UIFSM Meals • £2.30 per meal based upon actual uptake • DFE forecast of 87% uptake • Adjustments made based upon census data submissions for third term (Oct / Jan) Support • DFE tendered for organisations to provide “support” to schools – creation of help line, telephone consultations and then as last resort technical on site support to achieve.
Capital Projects Status • 48 capital medium/Large capital projects • No provision: 9 major projects • Servery conversions: 11 major projects ( 1 school withdrawn) • Large upgrade/ Refurbishment: 28 schools projects (1 school withdrawn) • All other schools non major capital works/equipment = 217 schools • Individual discussions re technical/funding amendments as required
Programme RAG Status • Red Status: 8 schools (inc 1 with no plans in place at present time) • Amber Status: 12 schools • Green status: 389 schools (all LA inf/jun/pri) exc Academies
Reporting • DFE – RAG status: fortnightly (informal) • DFE – RAG status: Half Termly (formal) • CFT/LACA (on behalf of DFE) – Operational: Weekly
School level operational support • Individual business plans • Advice and support for recruitment needs • Additional training – 1-1 and additional courses • Suppliers – Volume forecasting & Additional delivery scheduling • Launch support
