  1. Native Americans By: Sarah Rahman Brandeis Elementary Ms. Crenshaw’s Class

  2. Native Americans • The regions where they live • The homes that they built • The foods they eat • The climates they have • The environments they live in

  3. Regions The regions I’ll talk about in this PowerPoint are Northwest, Southwest, Northeast, and Southeast. They all have differences in their diets, houses, environments, and climates. I hope you find them interesting! 

  4. Homes The people of the Northwest used a house called the cedar plank house. It was built so a whole clan could fit in one. The chief’s family would live in a large part in the middle of the house. There would be a large fire too to bring warmth on cold winter days. The Southeast people had a different climate so there home was A LOT different. They struggled keeping cool rather than being warm. They had a home called a chickee. Chickees had no walls, then whenever a breeze came by it would cool the home. The Southwest people made pueblo homes. The sturdy adobe walls helped keep cool in and hot out! The Northeast people made longhouses. They could hold many families, and had a fire in the middle to keep warm. The cedar plank house was kind of like the longhouse because they both could hold many families and had a fire in the middle. The pueblo home and chickee were alike because they were both made to keep you cool.

  5. Foods The Northeast people ate the “Three Sisters” which are important crops. They are corn, beans, pumpkin, and squash. Another important food was rice. They also hunted. The Southeast ate corn, berries, and nuts. Corn could make corn mush and corn bread. They dried corn to save for winter. Nuts and berries were gathered from the forest and plainly eaten. The Southwest were farmers. They ate corn, beans, squash, and pumpkin. Corn is the most important crop for them. It could make corn meal or it could be dried to save for a drought. The Northwest mainly fished and hunted for their diet and farmed little, only to prepare for winter. The Southeast and Southwest mainly had crops and were farmers, unlike the Northeast and Northwest who did both.

  6. Climate The climate of the Southeast is very hot, just like the Southwest. The difference is the humidity and rainfall. There's plenty of rainfall in the Southeast, but in the Southwest you have to prepare for droughts! The Northeast is like the Northwest because the summers are hot and winters are cold and dry. The difference is the summers are normal for the Northwest, but its humid in the summers of the Northeast. The Northeast is like the Southeast because it’s humid or normal. The Northwest is like the Southwest because it’s dry or normal.

  7. Environment The Southeast has mountains, lakes, streams, and forests. It is a lot like the Northeast, and kind of like Southwest and Northwest, because of the mountains for the Southwest, and because of the water for the Northwest. All of these regions are touching the ocean though. Rich forests hit the Northeast, Southeast, and Northwest. They also all farm. Though some farm more than others.

  8. Native Americans Native Americans are REALLY different. Yet in the same way they are REALLY alike. They had a unique culture with diverse regions.

  9. Thanks! 
