Insecticidal Activity of Ethanolic Extract of Leaves of Annona squamosa

The objective of the present study is to investigate Insecticidal activity of ethanolic extract of Annana squamosa. The preliminary phytochemical investigation was carried out to identify the various constituents present in the extract. It was found that the Annana squamosa contain alkaloids, protein, amino acid, carbohydrate, glycosides, phytosterols, tannins and phenolic compounds. The ethanol extract of Annona squamosa produced significant “Knockdown” (KD50 ) in the concentration 1% w/v and 5% w/v tested 23.1 min and 11.4 min for respectively. The mortality(100%) was achieved at 39.6±1.4 and 14.5±1.1min for 1% w/v and 5% w/v conc entration respectively. No mortality of the insects was found in any of the controls up to 100hours.The ethanolic Annana squamosa extract showed potent activity against Sitophilus oryzae pest. The finding of new insecticidal activity is of great economic importance both from the agronomic and preventive medicine point of view. The reason for using new natural insecticides is that these are active at highly acceptable levels, biodegradable and do not leave toxic residues while the commonly used phosphorous and chlorinated insecticides contaminate the environment.

Hypertension and diabetes mellitus are chronic medical conditions that frequently coexist. The aim of the present study is to evaluate the effect of methanolic extract of Artemisia pallens Wall in hypertension induced by uninephrectomy in diabetic animals. Albino Wistar rats were used for the study. Diabetes was induced in rats by nicotinamide-STZ. After one week of diabetes induction rats were nephroctemized and animals were divided into seven groups: Sham control, Diabetic nepherectomy control, Glibenclamide treated group (5 mg/kg), Candesartan treated group (10 mg/kg), MEAP treated group (low dose i.e. 100 mg/kg), MEAP treated group (medium dose i.e. 200 mg/kg), MEAP treated group (high dose i.e. 400 mg/kg).

Plant derived compounds have played a vital role in the development of several chemotherapeutic agents. Catharanthus roseus is an important medicinal plant of the apocynaceae family. The leaf extract of Catharanthus roseus have many biological activities such as antibacterial, antioxidant and antidiabetes. The present study was aimed to carry out the phytochemical analysis and the GC MS analyses of Cathranthus roseus leaf extract ensure biological activity in the presence bioactive compounds. The leaves designated to the presence of secondary metabolites proteins, steroids, tannins,glycosides, reducing sugar, carbohydrates,saponins, sterols, terpenoids, acidic compounds, cardiac glycosides, phenols, alkaloids,flavonoids . In the GC MS analysis the Cathranthus roseus extract result shows the presence of bioactive compounds which revealed a broad spectrum of many medicinal property and antioxidant activity were identified. Assessment of Bioactive Activity of Blackberry Seed Extract

The aim of this study was to determine the bioactive activity of the blackberry Rubus laciniatus seed extracts. Total phenolic and total antioxidant activity of blackberry seed extracts were assessed with respect to two extracting solvents absolute ethanol and absolute acetone and two extracting techniques hot extraction at 40u00c2u00b0C and cold extraction at 26u00c2u00b0C . Proximate analysis showed that blackberry seeds contained 12.12 moisture, 8.00 protein, 0.74 fat, 2.15 ash and 76.99 total carbohydrate. The antioxidant activities of blackberry seeds were determined by evaluating total phenolic activity by gallic acid equivalent GAE , total antioxidant capacity by ascorbic acid equivalent AAE content and ferric reducing powder assay. The tested sample showed variable amount of total phenolic content 33.21 56.56 mg GAE g of dry extract , total antioxidant capacity 75.46 82.42 AAE g and reducing power 0.23 0.26 depending on different extraction techniques and solvents used. Higher amount of extract, total antioxidant capacity and reducing power were obtained for hot extraction technique. As compared to cold extraction technique, higher extract yields 7.48 vs 7.19 for ethanol and 4.35 vs 4.28 for acetone and other properties were obtained by hot extraction for a given solvent. Ethanol extract with hot extraction technique gave total phenolic content as 56.56 mg GAE g of dry extract, total antioxidant capacity as 82.42 AAE g and reducing power as 0.26 at extract concentration of 250 u00b5-g ml. The overall observations of the present experiment indicated that hot ethanol extract of blackberry seeds have strong antioxidant property and bioactive activity. Most. The food industry generates a large amount of wastes or by products annually around the world from a variety of sources. By products are the main raw materials for the formulation of functional foods in the food industry. Fruit and vegetable wastes are produced in large quantities in markets and their recovery could be employed for the production of nutraceuticals and functional foods. The food waste can be reduced by extraction of high value components such as proteins, flavor compounds, and phytochemicals which can be re used as nutraceuticals ingredients. High potential nutraceutical from underutilized fruit parts was selected for the study. Mangosteen fruit rind contains xanthones which have antioxidant, anti proliferation and anti microbial activity that are not reported in any other fruit. The pericarp or fruit hull of mangosteen rich in Xanthones from industrial waste were selected for the study. The physio chemical properties of mangosteen rind were analyzed.
