Typical Class Structure • Have 55 minutes or 80 minutes • I discuss key words and synonyms • Break into groups of 2 or 3 people and give each group a question. • Spend 2 minutes generating key words. • Discuss what a database is and Boolean terms • Assign a database to each group. May have more than one group working on a database. • Each group has a list of questions about their database that they must find answers to • Each group demonstrates their database to the class

Sample Questions • Should teenagers be required to get their parents’ permission to obtain birth control information and contraception? • Should music or art classes be required of all high school students? • Should animals be kept in zoos? • Should parents be held legally and financially responsible for crimes committed by children under the age of eighteen? • Should local school boards be allowed to ban books from school libraries?

  4. What Groups Need to Find Out Your Group has the Library Catalog to demonstrate to the class Make sure you go over: How to do a keyword search, a title search and an author search. How to request a book from another campus. How to search for books located only in the Dundalk campus library Your group has Academic Search Premier to demonstrate to the class What is “linked full-text”? How can I limit my search to full-text articles? How can I limit my search to scholarly journals? How can I choose other databases and what does this mean? How can I refine my results How can I limit my results by Subject? Show how to use citation tools, print, email and download.
