Use PowerPoint to keep track of these action items during your presentation • In Slide Show, click on the right mouse button • Select “Meeting Minder” • Select the “Action Items” tab • Type in action items as they come up • Click OK to dismiss this box • This will automatically create an Action Item slide at the end of your presentation with your points entered.

History & Leadership • In 1990, the ASSE Board of Directors chartered the ASSE Foundation. • The Board established the Foundation in recognition of the need for an organization to focus on strengthening the profession. Foundation Chairs Ray Boylston - 1990-93 Kennith Brock – 2005-07 Del Tally - 1994-96 Cynthia Roth – 2008 Phil Ulmer/Annette Haag – 1997 Stephen Bennett – 2009 Ed Granberry - 1998-2002 Eddie Greer – 2010-2012 Karl Jacobson - 2003-04 Fay Feeney – July 2012-present

  3. Mission Established by and in partnership with ASSE, the Foundation generates funding and provides resources for scholarships, applied research, academic accreditation, and related academic initiatives in order to advance the safety, health, and environmental profession.

Overview: Financial Since 1990, the Foundation has raised more than $6 million • Annual contributions range between $500 - $600,000 • Monies disbursed totaled more than $326,000 in FY2012 • $170,000 in scholarships & PE grants • $87,000 in research grants & fellowships • $35,000 toward the Future Safety Leaders Conference • $34,000 toward ASAC/ABET grant, student paper award, and other educational programs

Overview: Financial • Funding provided through the generosity of: • Corporations • ASSE Regions & Chapters • ASSE members & their families • The Foundation has more than $3,000,000 in investments • 19% of ASSE members support the Foundation via membership renewal • 23% of Chapters support the Foundation each year. • Every year, the Foundation offers approximately 100 scholarships & grants totaling $170,000+

  9. How You Can Give Donations Can Be Directed to a Fund of Your Choice: • Safety Matters Fund – our big-picture fund and newest initiative. The Safety Matters fund invests in quality, ground-breaking research, promotes safety professionals as risk-assessments experts, and expands the EH&S workforce. • Advocate/Visionary Named Scholarship/Professional Education Grant Fund – establish and name a fund according to your own criteria; each year the Foundation awards more than $175,000 to students and professionals pursuing OH&S enrichment. • Any other named scholarship/grant – contribute to one of the more than 70 previously established scholarship/grant funds at the Foundation and provide much-needed support to students and professionals. • Legacy Trust Program – demonstrate leadership by example and your belief in the future of the profession through a bequest, a gift of retirement assets, or a gift of a life insurance policies.

How ASSE Leaders Can Support the Foundation • Make a Leadership Gift ($100+) • Invite a Trustee to your ROC meeting to explain the programs and purpose of the Foundation • Encourage 100% giving from the chapters within your region • Encourage chapters to donate to the Foundation’s Silent Auction or play/sponsor the Golf Outing at PDC • Help the Foundation reach out to your company for their support in the form of a direct gift or matching funds • Become a member of the Legacy Trust Program

Scholarship & Grant ProgramFacts, Figures, and Dates • Scholarships – more than $150,000 available to students pursuing degrees in OH&S. • Professional Education Grants – more than $20,000 available to safety professionals working to advance their safety credentials through certification (ASP, CSP, etc.), college coursework, and attending seminars. • Program announced in September, applications due Dec 1st each year • Visit www.asse.org/foundation • List of awards • FAQs • Application • Awards announced April 1st of each year
