  1. The Eternal Brother Sister Bond Fostered By Rakhibazaar.com Raksha Bandhan is an Indian festival that celebrates the strong bond shared between a brother and a sister. I still remember the day my brother was born. My joy knew no bounds. We grew up in the city of Udaipur in Rajasthan, popularly referred to as the city of lakes. Rakhi is celebrated with a lot of ardour and intensity in the state of Rajasthan. It celebrates the eternal bond between brothers and sisters. On the day of rakhi, Marwari girls and women wake up early in the morning and after a refreshing bath wear new clothes and get ready for the puja followed the ritual of tying rakhi or a sacred thread around the wrist of their brothers. The brothers in turn promise to protect their sisters lifelong. The men and boys also observe all the rituals of this festival religiously. We are basically Bengalis but as we were brought up in Udaipur, we had absorbed the Marwari culture to a great extent. On the day of rakhi we used to go to our neighbour’s house to celebrate the festival with them. My brother and I used to love the motichoor laddoos which were distributed after the completion of all the rituals. This festival is celebrated on Poornima (Full moon day) of the month of Shravan (August). One of the rituals of this festival is the application of Tilak on the forehead that signifies the awakening of the soul-consciousness. This festival signifies the victory over the vices, such as greed, lust, anger, ego, pain and attachment. Marwaris follow a custom called Lumba rakhi, where the sisters tie a rakhi on the bangle of their sister-in-law. Marwaris call bangle, lumba and from that the name of Lumba Rakhi has been derived. The significance of Lumba rakhi lies in the fact that wife is considered to be ardhangini or a half of the man and no ritual can be complete without the wife’s presence. The husband in this ritual is not allowed to offer prayer to the lord without his wife. We were very much acquainted with the Lumba rakhi celebration as my school friend and neighbour was Anita and we were part of all Marwari festival celebrations. I look back with fond memories of childhood and miss my brother who now stays at Detroit with his family. Our celebration of Rakhi now has been limited to buying rakhi gifts and rakhi online, from rakhibazaar.com and having them delivered to my brother and his family staying in Detroit. This is a very popular online gift store and it has a wide variety of rakhis ranging from kundan, golden, diamond, sandalwood, jewel, navratna, mauli, handcrafted, swastika, pure chandan, resham dhaga and traditional rakhis. Now buying rakhi online has become a rage due to phenomenal collection offered by the online stores and for the sheer convenience of shopping from the comfort of home or office. My brother too avails the services of rakhibazaar.com to send rakhi gifts to India. We are very satisfied with the services and the quality of the products offered by this online gift store. Last year my brother sent me a delicious black forest cake by availing the service of this online gift store
