  2. Introduction After the introduction of CAD software, design processes became faster and design time is reduced. Due to this new product introduction time is lowered. This presentation will focus on different attributes of AutoCAD, Solid Edge, Pro-Engineer, Catia and Microstation

  3. It was introduced in 1970’s and mainly were used in automobile and aerospace organizations to develop internal design software. It was created to overcome the problem of repetitive drafting. 2D CAD software Introduction

  4. Some popular 2D cad software 1. Autocad This is most popular CAD software due to reason that it does not require strong graphics configurations. Initially, it was designed as command based but the later versions are developed as user-friendly 2D software. It can be tailored using Auto lisp, Visual lisp,.Net. VB, and C++. It can support file formats like .DWG and .DXF .3D modeling is also possible by using Autocad but it’s not so popular.

  5. 2. Microstation Microstation software is commonly used in civil, architectural and plants related sketches. It has good rendering features. The later versions can do 3D modeling also. It can be tailored by using using Microstation development language (MDL), VBA, C, and C++. It supports file formats like .DGN and.DWG and .DXF.

  6. 3D CAD software Introduction 3D CAD software have many advanced features including 3D visualization, parent-child relationship, Top-down modeling approach Parametric and geometry.

  7. Some popular 3D CAD software 1. Catia It is icon-based high-end cad software. It has advanced surface modeling capabilities. As per expanse, it is higher than pro/e, solid edge etc. It also has CAM modules and CAE. It can be tailored by using VB, C++, and CAA.

  8. 2. Pro-Engineer (pro/e) This software is menu-based. It consists of several advanced modules like, sheet metal, surface modeling, Pro mechanic (FEA), cabling etc. It is more known for its amazing parametric and logical relations.

  9. 3. Solid Edge It is also icon-based software. It is designed as user friendly. It has several drawbacks like, the user cannot see how an edit would interact with its next features. It can be tailored by using VB.
