  2. The source • The River Dee’s source is on the slopes of Dduallt above Llanuwchllyn in the mountains of Snowdonia [in Wales.]

  4. Towns and cities along the River Dee • The River Dee is 110 km long. • It flows through the towns of Bala, Llandrillo, Corwen, Llangdollen, Bangor-on-Dee, Farndon, Chester and Flint. • Downstream of Bangor-on-Dee the river becomes the natural border between Wales and England.

  5. Estuary • The river opens out into the Dee Estuary.

  6. Wildlife • The River Dee is a special area of conservation due to important population of Atlantic salmon, freshwater pearl mussel and European otter.

  7. The Dee Estuary is one of the UK’s premier birding locations for wetland and shorebirds such as Shelduck, Wigeon, Teal, Pintail, Oystercatcher, Grey Plover, Knot, Dunlin, Black-tailed Godwit, Curlew and Redshank.

  8. PontcysyllteAquaduc • The PontcysyllteAquaduc was built in 1805 by Thomas Telford and carried the Shropshire Union Canal 37m over the River Dee.

  9. Water Sports • Canoing is permitted on one of 100 m long rapid upstream of Llangollen where race wildwater and slalom races are held.
