  3. Supply challenge • First BIMCO/ISF Manpower Study in 1990 • 2005 Manpower update shortage of 10.000 officers • Anticipated to increase to 21.000 in 2010

  4. STCW and MLC • STCW – Safety convention • MLC – Social convention • They form a foundation for recruitment and retainment of seafarers, however more efforts needed by owners…

  5. Retainment initiatives • Planning of career patterns • Planned re-education programmes • Modern living conditions • High-tech shipboard work environment
