  1. SISO SAC Report to IEEE CS SABJune 10, 2004Long Beach, CA Katherine L. Morse, Ph.D., SAIC morsek@saic.com 858-826-6728

  2. Standards Status • HLA Rules, Interface Specification, and Object Model Template (IEEE 1516, 1516.1, 1516.2) • PDG and drafting groups formed • Comment period will open this month • First round of comments closes August 6 • SISO SAC currently considering formation of a PDG to extend DIS

  3. Housekeeping • Link on Working Group Areas (http://www.sisostds.org/stdsdev/hla/index.htm) still reflects only HLA, not DIS (IEEE 1278) • Should say Simulation Interoperability Standards Organization SAC • SISO also needs to replace link target, currently SISC, to point to a page on HLA and DIS

  4. Remaining Questions about Relationship between SISO SAC and IEEE SAB • First action is for SISO SAC to determine if SISO indemnifies PDGs against anti-trust lawsuits for SISO products • Subsequent questions are predicated on resolution of this question • Can a SISO Product Nomination (PN) substitute for a PAR? • Can we use the SISO electronic balloting mechanism instead of the IEEE mechanism? • SISO has an electronic balloting process and mechanism for Non-IEEE SISO products that is currently used effectively • If we use the SISO balloting, what does AudCom review? • SISO SAC requests a telecon with IEEE CS SAB to come to prompt resolution • Katherine L. Morse • Chris Rouget • Jim Moore?

  5. Reproduction of IEEE Specification Excerpts • We have an open question about reproducing portions of the 1516 and 1278 specifications in vendor materials as has already been done by POSIX • Manuals and on-line help • Interface Specification HLA APIs in RTI manuals • OMT table formats in object modeling tool manuals • DIS enumeration tables in manuals, or HLA I/F spec text in on-line help systems. • Distribute the text of the 1516.2 Document Type Definition (DTD) to the users who are potential originators of SOMs and FOMs so they can do their own preliminary checking

  6. Relationship to International Standards Organizations • Standards Australia is proposing to form a new Committee to develop new Standards in the field of Computer Modelling and Simulation, IT-031 • https://committees.standards.com.au • Terms of reference • The mission of the IT-31 committee is to coordinate, develop, disseminate and promote Standards for Computer Modelling and Simulation in Australia and contribute to international Computer Modelling and Simulation standards development. • To provide standardisation in the field of Computer Modelling and Simulation, including standardization of interfaces for • computer graphics • image processing • interaction with and visual presentation of information exchange and definition of environmental data • exchange and definition of behavioural data • exchange and definition of platform/technical data • exchange and definition of simulation intercommunication data • Standards Australia wishes SISO to be represented on the committee • IT-31 standards may eventually be forwarded to SISO for ratification
