Background • States are building longitudinal data systems to help educators and policymakers make better decisions to improve student achievement and school performance. • Washington state applied for a USED K-12 SLDS grant in 2008 and was awarded a $5.9M four year grant in 2009. • Emphasis on data governance, data quality, business/data analysis, technical infrastructure, tools and reporting • Alignment between HB2261, the K-12 SLDS and the P-20 SLEDS grant August 2010

  3. Key K-12 SLDS Activities • Comprehensive Education Data and Research System (CEDARS) became operational for the 09-10 S.Y. • Created Data Governance program and completed a data and technical gap analysis • State course codes phased in during the 09-10 S.Y. • Expanded Ethnicity & Racial groups by the 10-11 S.Y. August 2010

  4. Key K-12 SLDS Activities • RFP released July 2010 for Data Warehouse integration and reporting • Student Record Exchange pilot in September 2010 • Infrastructure improvements • On-going support for school district staff to improve data quality August 2010

Evergreen State P-20 • American Recovery and Reinvestment Act funds • Intended to promote linking of data across time and databases, from early childhood into career, including matching teachers to students, while protecting student privacy and confidentiality consistent with applicable privacy laws • Washington received $17.3million • Three years, ending June 2013 • www.erdc.wa.gov/arraslds2009
