  2. Theological Determinism • Learning Objectives:- • To explore some of the main themes of religious determinism • To understand some of the key positions and thinkers including Calvin, Roman Catholic Church, Arminians, Luther and Augustine

  3. Theological Determinism and Moral Responsibility • The Issue • Within traditional Judeo-Christian theology, God gave humanity the ability and right to make their own choices. Within the story of Adam and Eve the first created humans could only be morally responsible, and thus blameworthy, for their actions, if they had the ability to choose one action over another. The theory being without free will, God could not justly commend or condemn the actions of humanity.

  4. Religious Determinism - Task • Each person has an info sheet on a different aspect of this topic. Some are scholars/quotes and some are key concepts. Some are defending predestination and some are disagreeing. By communicating with others, you need to complete your brainstorm handout.

  5. Religious Determinism • Now make logical links between the information/scholars and arguments and put them in some order. • Ext – Write a coherent paragraph that links them together.
