  2. History of Vet Centers 206 community Vet Centers are located in all 50 states, the District of Columbia, Guam, Puerto Rico, and the U.S.Virgin Islands and were established by congress in 1979.

  3. Eligibility • To receive services, eligible veterans and their families are those who served on active duty in support of or in a combat theater during: • World War II • Korean War • Vietnam War • Lebanon • Grenada • Panama • Gulf War • Somalia • Bosnia • Kosovo • Afghanistan • Iraq • including forward combat areas and/or other combat operations

  4. Eligibility • Active Reserve service members and their families. • Active duty service members and their families. • Vet Center services and programs are provided at no cost.

  5. Sexual Trauma War Crime Medical Emergencies Peacekeeping Missions Natural Disasters Assaults Training Accidents Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) Situations that may cause the disorder

  6. Confidentiality • Veterans and their families’ information is protected and treated as confidential.

  7. Confidentiality • Veterans are assured that medical and administrative information is not disclosed or vulnerable to any outside entity without the express written authorization of the veteran or an authorized representative.

  8. Confidentiality • The Denver Vet Center ensures confidentiality of information by adhering to the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 2003 (HIPPA).
